In the recently concluded international competition for the deepening of urban design and key plot architectural design in the C2 development unit of the Pearl Bay starting area of Nansha New District, Guangzhou, the proposal by IAPA and Guangdong Provincial Institute of Architectural Design was rated first. The expert review committee highly praised the planning of the proposal, the architectural plans of the three complexes, the transformation of the southern shoreline, and the creative river grading, considering the overall design to be creative, well integrated with the control regulations, and highly implementable.
Nansha New District — a national demonstration zone for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation and a new type of urbanization, and the maritime gateway of Guangzhou as a national central city. This is a target-oriented, implementation-oriented design that continues the framework of the starting area's control regulations and urban design, and enhances urban functions, promotes land appreciation, and highlights ecological benefits through comprehensive and pragmatic technical means. At the Wealth Water City, located at the confluence of the two rivers and the tip of Lingshan Island, it will be a central vibrant wealth area that integrates five major functions: headquarters economy, shipping finance, wealth management, exhibition culture, and supporting services, together with Hengli Peninsula to create the high-end industrial support core of Pearl Bay. The proposal will be a new Lingnan water city with a unique water metropolis experience like Venice; it will also build a self-circulating water network and a levee with flood control and ecological filtering functions, providing a safe, clean, and ecological urban water environment.
Individual buildings will utilize the most advanced green building technology of the contemporary era. Leading enterprises and financial giants will find iconic, low-carbon, green, high-quality office and living spaces here. The plan will create a series of diverse waterfront public centers, integrating exhibition, cultural, commercial, and apartment functions at the island tip and inner lake. A lake-spanning art bridge is designed to concentrate the dynamic vitality of 24 hours on both banks of the Shanghengli Waterway. Implementing the higher-level planning concept of "Lingnan Smart Water City, Nanhai Charming Bay Area," the overall spatial structure will form a "city surrounded by clear water, ecological green belt, axis-led, vibrant Nan Port." This will be a vibrant peninsula, a water city that gathers wealth!
